Kappy’s founder, Gus Alpogianis started his career in the restaurant business by opening and operating the Chicago West side staple, The Palace Grill. It was here that Gus became known for his uniquely warm and personable approach to his business and customers. After 25 years, Gus sold the Grill to family where it remains a warm and welcoming place for Chicagoans.

How it all started.

1979

In 1979, after selling the Grill, Gus purchased Kappy’s and brought his now finely-honed philosophy from the Palace Grill to Morton Grove – serving homemade food in a comfortable, warm and inviting environment served with a lot of personality.

The tradition continues

Being raised in a family where both sets of grandparents and his own parents were in the restaurant business, Gus’ son, George Alpogianis was naturally-inclined to study the culinary arts. Now formally trained, he has followed in his father’s footsteps at Kappy’s – bringing his skills to new menu development. And of course George has a bit of his dad’s personality mixed in there for good measure.
